Innocence of newborn babe,

            -sixteen revolutions old

naivety and curly locks

lost in youthful age

But still remains that half-cocked smile

which speaks to me

of toddler days

and all mischievous ways.

In memories scent,

I smell again

the sweetness of your cherub’s grin

and hear refrains of days long spent…in joy

Sixteen years of summer’s sun

are locked within your eyes;

and dear to me are each of these,

because they make you mine.

I’m proud of what my boy’s become

            -the young man I now see

who wears upon his manly face

that half-cocked grin for me.
