Observations obvious and yet unseen by the mind of the important.

Bright Lights Hindered By Big City

Bright lights of white, gold, red, and blue,
Dot the misty ghost-like horizon.
Lurking between shadows of ocean and sky,
cruising ever so slowly, movement unseen by the naked eye.

Green and white fluorescent crests conclude the shore-bound ebb,
gentle waves gradually grow in their fervor.
Dark silhouettes ride the fullness of tide, first sitting and waiting,
then standing up to conclude in a smooth, gentle glide to shore in whispered murmurs.

Hooded and huddled, some sit on the sand,
waiting, and watching for their girl or their man.
Life guards are busy, preparing for the crowd, building,
while tractors and graders make strides in the sand,
smoothing and covering the prior traces of man.

Minute figures unrealistically small dot the pier,
in the distance they seem so small as almost not to appear.
They stroll unstructured, then stop for a while, to look over and under the pilings.
Once refreshed and rested, they press on,
snuggling and zipping deeper into their hooded linings.

Many come, stay for a while, then go upon their way,
Trying to capture an hour or two,
of peace and nature before beginning their day,
in an office, tower, or factory with not as nice a view.

Their daily grind that affords them much,
while robbing them of this sweet, peaceful reverie,
knowing that tomorrow the smells, feel, and sights remain,
guarded safely for all to see.

This is a wonderful poem with the making of the day and all that make and keep our lives full of peace and beauty. The tribute you've given to the Coast Guards and all who guard our life is a magnificent and loving one and so very Honorable. You are wonderful and I thank you so much for honoring them with this serene poem. And I thank them with all of my heart for all that they do making all as beautiful, comfortable and peaceful as life is today. ~Salute!~
