WWII

The war was on

In the sky above,
flew a gentle dove

On the roof below
lingered streaks of snow.

I climbed the fence
and tore my pants,

bruised my only knees
laughed at by my niece.

It was war out there
but I was not aware
of the world of blood
in the Russian mud.

The rest of it by now
melted with the snow.

In the sky above
flies the gentle dove.

We never really know what's been before us.... that's why humbling ourselves is the only way..
