Normality isn’t as important
As the appearance
Of normality
Give me the peace of the known
No surprises
I used to revel in the new
Seek out the adventuresome
I’ve grown old
Since yesterday
And the new no longer appeals
Give me peace
And I’m happy once more
Give me the everyday
And I’ll sleep away the next few years
Excitement be damned
Give me ennui
This has a different meaning for me than what it does for Felix and Regis. To me this poem is exactly what my mother did. She embraced the everyday, the things that she knew and was comfortable with, and that is why she refused to accept me as her daughter, because it was a new thing in her life, and she refused to have anything to do with the new. She held onto her past with a death like grip. But I will always ask why could'nt she accept me for me, why did she want me to be someone I could never be? I guess now I will never know for sure.
