Silence surrounds as they look at the floor

Memories transform the Life Form inside
Restored youthful beauty before the slide
Into the dark recesses of hurt and pain
Brittle bones now feel the strain
The Life Form encapsulated with tubes and IVs
Eyes stare but they cannot see

A shrieking sound interrupts the rhythm
Life and death—a mysterious schism
Who wants this—the family asks?
While doctors and nurses remain on task
To care for the Life Form slipping away
Papers signed long ago just for this day

Finally it’s over—the machines are removed
Along with IVs and feeding tubes
A green straight line cuts across the black screen
The Life Form escapes to a place serene
Leaving family to mourn its passing
For nothing remains everlasting
