Terror building ..Where am I?
Looks like a hospital..but why?
Doctors groping..pawing at me-
I am fine - why can't they see?
Schizophrenia I heard someone say-
Let me alone..don't want to hear what you say!
Nurses asking questions..why am I here?
My minds in a turmoil of pain and fear!
Blood on my shirt..what did you say?
I tried to kill my wife today?
I don't believe you..leave me alone!
Keep your medicines- I'm going HOME!
Schrizophrenic someone whispers so low-
Give me my clothes ..I'm going to go!
Oh god, the emotions churning in me-
what is false and what's reality?
I picture a knife..Oh what have I done-
The demons in my mind...they have won!
I struggle to leave - the doctors hold me down-
Bloody images twirling around.
Held here against my will- fighting to be free-
One doctor on the floor..another holding me.
What is that white thing you hold in your hand-
Putting it around me - I can hardly stand!
Now I can't move - what are you doing to me?
Take this thing off! Just let me be!
Giving me a shot. i scream whyyyy-
My mind is a jumble - I start to cry.
I sit in this room now - silent and alone-
No body cares - Everyones gone.
The silence is deafening - the nite is so long-
Why am I here - I've done nothing wrong???
Authors Note: My daughter was once with a schizophrenic. She lived in fear as I did every day she was with him. He once held a gun to her head..Thank God ..he did'nt follow thru. She did'nt tell me all this intill she left him. Now, she has a wonderful, loving husband and I am so proud of her. Alot of schizophrenics think they are well..they do not need medicine..this was in his case. Let's pray for the sick men and women who have this , and their families who must cope.

As,i go back through my moms reviews, i couldn't help but notice some negative comments by individuals who have NOT lived this type of life. Yes it is a HORROR when you lived with this type of person. So before you get on here commenting like you're a professional. (Indeed your not) live that life first. No one needs a lecture about it,my self and my mother (rip mom love you) lived it. So we know all about the disease.

Im numb. My beloved son, Adam, is a paranoid schizophrenic. It belongs out in the open so we can erase the stigma of ALLL mental illnesses. Alas, Adam turned his attacks inward and hurt himself, not others. After years of agony he is on the right meds and learning to subdue the voices. It is incurable but with treatment, these many good people can learn to cope. They will never be free of them, however. He is a real hero of mine.. it is never easy. Thank god your daughter escaped from someone who I truly hope is seeking help. Thank you for writing such an eloquent and precisely accurate picture of a horror of an illness. very well written! This poem just touches on the subject that most of us will never understand, the human mind. Very glad to know that your daughter is now fine and hope that anyone with a person that has this, will be safe.

All I can do, is tell you that I was reading this, thinking you must have been very close to this person to know the feelings, and get us to know them as well!!!!!! I am in awe of this piece, it is breathtaking, and speaks for the many voices that go unheard. Thank you for putting a piece like this out there!!!!!

Very powerful well written portrayal of a fear a lot of people experience,living with or close to some one with this condition.
As you say that person is seldom aware of their condition,what is appalling is the different attitudes towards these poor people
in different countries.

As you so well have described, schizophrenia is not a horror for them, rather it is that for those who are not as yet diagnosed with the disorder. Schizophrenics do not know they are schizophrenic until labeled as such. Schizophrenia, essentially, is the inability to feel and connect with others. It is basically a split between the feeling component and the thinking component of the brain. Medicated they can interact with others so that they are not a source of fear to the community if they must function in a community. Most wander off and die if they can possibly do so. They used to function as the Shaman of the tribal culture and still do in many areas where fear do not rule logic. For more correct information, you are welcome to email me. I have studied it for years and am gifted in understanding their plight because I am a Shaman, or so I've been told. There is so much mis-information about this disorder that they are today's catatonic shadow walkers. many are born that way and it is not noticed until about the age of 14 because of the present diagonistic criteria of the DSM.
Linda, I applaude you in this piece with deep empathy and apprciation. I appreciate most that you managed to come from inspiration in your daughters experience, yet write with feeling accuracy from the perspective of the Schytzophrenic. There are countless influences that lend toward the development and manifestation of Schytzophrenia that are deeply rooted, like way back, in our larger society demands fostering increased isolationism and less
quality time for communal intimacy which nurtures sound physiological and psych-social development. I pray with you, and also that we get a grip on this at a societal level to begin to change the course of the devlopment of being Human.
