if fish can give pedicures
can fireflies swarm my shoulder
easing pain with warmth and glow
any hour day or night out of season

if crickets can chirp to us
the temperature outdoors
can they regulate mine
put an end to hot flashes

if I lock gaze with a giraffe
can I gain its grace and balance
then walk the line like Johnny Cash
as if balance were mine all along

if I hold sugar in my hands
can I attract a parade of ants
able to transfer strength
so I can carry things many times my size

if I should I touch a dolphin snout 
can I gain a sonar-sort ability for
finding things I lose any given day
like my car in the parking lot--where is it right now
