Anyone that is afraid of the dark....this will not help you get over it.........
Hold your hands up in front of your face……….nothing Move your hands to touch your face…you can feel them, but can you see them?……nothing....Listen for any sounds no matter how small.....nothing...... Oh God…….you are in a place so dark that you can’t see the hand in front of your face….blackness so deep and dark that there is not a speck of light to allow your eyes to adjust…….your eyes dart from side to side…….nothing.
You try to be the twenty four year old mature person that you think you are………nothing.....Look up at the ceiling with your eyeballs straining…….nothing.. You’ve got nothing to be afraid of……What the hell are you thinking?………..nothing....You can’t forget the darkness...got to leave, got to get out of here…..the very darkness that you were afraid of when you were eight years old….but why……….what happened to make the darkness the cold enemy it is right now…….. It wasn’t the worrying about what was under the bed, it was the unknown…the blackness…the evil……the nothing What in the hell is that noise? Your breathing has gone from shallow to nothing……you wait for your heart to stop just like your breathing has……..you think not breathing might help you hide from what is in the room with you…..but the sound is getting closer…your tear drops fill your eyes but won’t fall……. You can’t move…….you can’t turn your head to look behind you, but the sounds are now so close that you feel the warmth of it’s breath…………what is it…….. Oh my God……..

Phenomenal! This captures the fear of the dark that even the bravest soldier surely has, everyone has their own fear of the dark and this describes the feeling every single individual gets. No complaints whatsoever here.
I was afraid of the dark growing up. But to certain extend have n't gotten over it, to a certain extent. But i dare you to sleep in a dark room with a dead body. lol. I like the way you explained.

Now THAT is the way to write the Dark!!! I share your interest in the authors listed on your bio, plus H.P. Lovecraft, all masters of the Dark. Write on!
I'm one of these crazy people who will read ghost stories by the campfire, walk into the woods at night, and turn off the flashlight for a while just for kicks. Do some of us ever lose that thrill of being a little bit afraid of the dark?
this is intense, creative and a joy to read. You have taken one of the primal childhood fears and made it all that more frightening. Splendid work, Pamela

It is very deep dark and it takes you into your deepest thoughts
of all black Magick beyond belief. Jody
How dark is dark? How black is black is black? The amplification of this poem, how bizarre, throws light on a dream image, very Jungian. Perhaps Darkness is a tool we use to protect ourselves although there is no rule-of-thumb interpretation. I am also interpreting this poem as Dark Magick that perhaps has gone cold, leaving it even darker. This is a real mind-bender. Thought-provoking write, Pamela.
