What a wonderful poem...having done my bid and made my sacrifices for this country, I find it extremely poignant but an honorable piece for all that serve. Thank your son or daughter for there service from another vet.

Just soldiers does them justice, for they are only maimed by the roulette wheel of fortune. And some are accidentally made heroes by their circumstance. Most, I would believe, enter today's armed forces for monetary gain (college, a career, a way to support their young family, etc.) rather than the glory of their country against (often unwarranted) foes of various stripes, some bad, some innocent, and most, just like us, but demonized, nonetheless.

Yes, we should mourn them when they die. Yes, we should support them after they come back. But we should not honor them for war.
