High on a mountain his head in the clouds,
An old tree is standing so bold and so proud.
He could see everything from his place up so high,
And he had seen more than a century go by.

But so many years of storms and high wind,
Have weakened the tree and he’s starting to bend.
He thought “I’ve been here so long, and my times up I know,
It’s time I just fall to the ground and let go”.

But before he let go he took a good look around,
And for once in his life the old tree looked down.
He had always looked out with his head in the sky,
Looking down he saw something he did not realize.

All tangled up in his old but strong limbs,
There were so many other trees leaning on him.
They fell into him during storms in the night,
Now he’s all they have to hold them upright.

When the old tree saw this he saw things differently,
I didn’t realize so many depended on me.
With his pride renewed, he thought with a smile,
“I think its best I just stand here awhile”.
