Poem Artwork

For those of you folks not aware

Me Madre’ lives with the two of us

And without some afternoon coffee

She sometimes can put up quite a fuss

So when the microwave oven expired

The household took a turn for the worse

Unsupervised use of the stove top for heating

Is forbidden that’s part of the curse

Madre’s seventy seven and probably going on five

She needs help keeping things straight

We both do our best, though I must confess

It’s a real chore for me and my mate

But I stray from the point of the story

To the valley we ventured today

In search of microwave treasure

All due to the repairman’s delay

With the operative word cheap we took the short leap

And landed at the store of Goodwill

And there in the back sitting high on a rack

Was the one all my needs would fulfill

I glanced at the sticker, its color was purple

The hue made my wallet cry hooray

That meant half price to buy the device

Because purple was the color of the day

Pleased with my prize I went up to the counter

Pulled out my loot for the clerk and took note

They offered senior discounts for those who’d admit

To being as old as an old billy goat

For ten percent discounts admissions come easy

And the microwave oven came home

It actually works and that’s pretty nifty

Because the blessed machine only cost thirteen fifty

The household is happy for the price of some burgers

And Goodwill made money to foster its goals

Two problems got solved on the very same day

We get hot coffee while helping people get off the doles

Goodwill is a wonderful organization; we try to support ours when we can. It's good for helping those who have disabilities are those who are on fixed or limited incomes, like we are. Great message in this, Patrick; very well penned; bravo!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

Support your local Goodwill - something we all should be doing; and we should all be spreading far more good will, too.

I don't drink coffee unless i am dead on my feet and it speeds me up for a bit, but I never bother at home...& I have been lucky, my microwave has hung in there since I bought the motorhome it is installed in, so keep my fingers crossed, maybe it will last a few more years...hope your Madre stays well...Ed
