Self Explanatory

Poem Artwork

Baseball in November

Basketball in June

These seasons run on for so long

It makes my conscious swoon

They cry about the snowflakes

They cry about the rain

They cry until they reach the bank

To deposit obscene gain

A million for six pitches

A hundred thousand for an inning

A three point shot made or not

It’s their wallets that are winning

And we the lowly sports fans

Sadly let devotion linger

When the owner of a ball club

Gives opposing fans the finger

Yeah he was fined a quarter mill

And he apologized

But I for one am just fed up

As you maybe have surmised

I guess I should think local

And give the high school teams support

They still play the game with heart

I am happy to report

You write good poetry Patrick.
This flows nicely and has the
signature element of humor in it
that very much defines you.
Keep up the good work!

And they play filled with zest and no money in their pockets or on their mind. Seems many things today have gone astray. However, I am just not ready to give up my NASCAR!

Be always safe,

Bread and circuses. Keep the masses dumbed-down and distracted. Highly paid gladiators they are. To hell with sports. I abandoned that whole thing years ago.

Good point... I no longer go to professional sports events, unless the tickets are free... so, I know longer go to professional sports events. Enjoyed!

Cheers,
Dan

I would rather support the high school sports teams myself, but frankly, too many teams have forgotten the love of the game and have focused on winning and money or fame. And the parents have ruined it for the kids; this is why I am against organized sports for kids. Have never really supported this. Good write!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

Patrick,

This was written very well and oh so true. However, I'm an ardent baseball team. I love my state's team even if it is the worst one in baseball! (Arizona Diamonbacks)

It’s their wallets that are winning

How so sadly true. Supporting the high schoolers sounds like a much better idea.

Great write, Patrick. You speak the whole truth here. I've been fed up with pro sports for decades now. Far as I'm concerned, they're all just a bunch of over paid, self centered buffoons.

I'm almost sure the high school children would like another enthuastic fan. The big games are a treat but watching them grow in to those millions is more fun. My nephew is often wrapped in bandages. He says it's hard work. :-)

That's why I like college football over the pros for the same reason.
