Just back from a 4 day mini-visit to our oasis in the Ozarks. LA has much to learn.

Poem Artwork

Seventy one hour Ozark weekend
Travel time not included
No record heat
No police helicopters overhead
No Lindsay Lohan updates
No bumper to bumper
Just bliss
Gully washer at 4:00 am
An alarm clock I can live with
Morning coffee with the critters
Our deer herd is now up to seven members
Vultures still claim the rooftop as their own
Leaves are everywhere
Air that doesn’t smell like freeway residue
The soothing whine of bass boats in pursuit of fisherman’s tales
Just noticed all the brown squirrels have bluish tails
Maybe it’s hanky-panky with the blue tail skinks
Actual red birds
The dishwasher isn’t broken after all
One of the showers does need repair
Maybe next visit
Catching up with friends and neighbors
A little Friday night celebrating
Then a lot of celebrating
No one celebrates Saturday morning
Crafting a fresh batch of potato leek soup while
Gazing at the reflections of the trees across the lake
On Sunday the season changed
As if someone threw the light switch
It’s suddenly Autumn
Plane to catch
Roadside cafes and cow pastures lead the way
Touchdown LA
Curses fill the air as the overcrowded shuttle bus
Strands a few travelers who have to wait for the next one
Lindsay has posted bail

Gotta love the Ozarks. I was there in the late 1990s and was in awe.

Well see, you did not miss the Lindsay updates after all and even got in a good weekend. By the way, I really, really don't miss the LA traffic, especially LAX...

Be always safe,
Karen

Sounds a lot like paradise, Patrick! Too bad reality sucks! At least you were able to escape if only for a little while. Nicely penned, my friend.

Hee, Hee, Hee... Nice! The whole thing sounds real nice... But, I like Eileen's comment almost as much as the write... Hang in there "Big Fella" one day you'll be able to keep up with the big boys. Thanks Dick.

And it's 120 degrees. Welcome back. My car has broken down twice in one week due to all this heat. I'm over it. Moving to the mountains.
