On the Tip of My Tongue

I have always been terrible with people’s names, on two fronts, remembering them and failing to use them when conversing. Sometimes it gets me in trouble, and rightly so.

Poem Artwork

There it was

Right on the tip of my tongue

Like so many angels dancing on the head of a pin

Well except for my tongue being forked and all

I get twice as many dancers; a bonus

Angels? No.

Belly dancers

Beer belly dancers

Not so exotic

Not so hypnotic

Definitely not so erotic

Talk about tongue tied

I try to keep pace with their rhythm

But I get distracted and before you know it

It’s gone again

It was right there

Right stinkin’ there

So I start over and stumble though

The cobwebs and disorder

Of my memory banks

Only to discover that the charger was left unplugged

And that stupid indicator light is red

And it will take an eternity to get back to yellow

Let alone green

And it’s not like I don’t already know the answer

Especially this one

So I take a chance on forming the words

EEE

Eiiiii

Eilll

Eileen

There.

Now that wasn’t so hard was it?

Now repeat.

"The cobwebs and disorder" of memory blanks, something I'm familiar with, Patrick! And it's funny how so many of our AD friends were able to relate to this. Poetic minds can't be bothered with names and labels, haha! I really like those angels dancing on the head of a pin or on your "forked" tongue, nice imagery!

LOL I can relate; sometimes I know people by face more than names, but once I do learn their names, I play name association, and it helps me to remember. Works like a charm! Cute write, Patrick; thoroughly enjoyed~

Ho, Ho, Ho! I really needed a chuckle this mornin, and you've given it to me. And as one who can relate having prior relationships and even a prior wife, I long ago began using the term of endearment 'Sweetie!' and it has saved my butt more than once.

Don't think I'd have posted that one my friend.... I was going to say she's bound to see it, but it's too late.... SHE ALREADY DID!!!I've always heard payback's a bitch. Who gets the vacation place? Where should we send your mail?

On a softer note, you're not much worse off than my sweetheart and myself.... well, except for the fact that we do remember each other's names, but it did take some practice.

I too, suffer from this malady. With a little trick that I played, reading the class roster for about three or four days before class, I was able to remember most of my 120 students each semester. Unfortunately, I soon forgot them and can scarcely remember them except by the way they looked for their behavior or some other interesting attributes.

Now, I find myself forgetting even close friends. I know how you feel.

I could have written this, but not nearly so well. I can meet a person, look him in the eye, shake his hand, he tells me his name and I repeat it. Ten minutes after we part company I have forgotten it. Embarrassing.
