Some Friday fun.

Most people are familiar with Nostradamus’s famous quatrains and prophecies. But few people know he had a younger sister named Nostrildamus (loosely translated, the damsel with the huge nose) who had her own skills predominately revolving around her nasal passages. It is said she could smell the future and the past simultaneously and prognosticated with reckless abandon. But she is best known for her own unique written form called “snotrains” These were couplets with or without any rhyme or rhythm scheme and were most commonly run-on stanzas, scribed onto soggy parchment in green “ink”, with an occasional green gem for punctuation. It just so happens I stumbled across a recently transcribed copy of an original.

Poem Artwork

And when I awakened I smelled a Rose

A Rose of a different namesake who chose

And all of the green people reveled in the news

For with this new challenger the brown man could lose

All of the other challengers whimpered and moaned

That the godless wench deserved to be stoned

For their morals were secured by God’s own devices

For each had a God far mightier than each other’s vices

The greens and the reds and the blues amongst themselves bickered

As the common man watched and hopelessly snickered

And in that dismal autumn of the last year of a nation’s lie

The awful conclusion of red and blue and green’s battle a literal tie

And the vote counters scurried and worried to avoid the tumult

But with again identical numbers with the same sad result

Leader Yogi proclaimed there was no end until a fat Madonna sings

And in a city of full of angles the mobs clipped their wings

Soon the stars would spin from the sky and the moon would melt

As the wheel of life would rotate no more and the end of time felt

A great tribe of the cosmos had predicted the last solstice to be

As explained over and over on a device called a TV

But on that day after Armageddon all had to admit

Sometimes even prophet’s guesses aren’t worth a shit

Somebody then realized that a smile like a frown

Was just like that calendar when read upside down

It was nothing at all like the end days of time

In fact just the opposite the beginning of man’s climb

Snot-slinging prophesies to be germ-proofed and posted on all the outdoor two and four-seaters walls until it dries up and and you can roll it around with thumb and forefinger.
