This work was written in 1972 at the age of 19. I feel that it is more geared toward a child audience, but certainly can be enjoyed by all of us. It is very simple and written with a tremendous amount of "young naivete." Ah, if it were only so simple...Sigh. |

I - On The Farm
With all it's splendor, youthful things, the beauty of life around me rings like bells on a merry morn'. When out in the fields the farmer sings as he rides along and plants his seeds.
They're planted in the springtime, and then begin to grow... By autumn you see them in the fields, lined up row by row.
The country's such a peaceful place, it sings with happiness. And then again the farmer glows as he speaks of his harvest in rows upon rows.
He shows his gladness of the sun, his joy to be alive - the beauty of the universe, if mankind can survive.
If he can live throughout the pain and slowly clear his mind, and think of only real things... So many need to find the way to live in peace, in happiness with justice there. To learn what it means for love to live... To learn what it means to share.
(We sow our seeds)
II - The Dawn
Look into the sunset in the gentle dawn, see your love live on and on.
The world around you, peaceful...so calm. You feel a sudden tenderness - the smile upon the sun.
(The first morning of spring comes)
III - The Harvest
Season to season, in time, passing by. Spring turns to summer, then autumn is nigh, Shedding their leaves the trees cry in vain, only to enter 'pon winter again.
As the seasons swirl 'round and 'round in their spendour sprinkling their colour around, hear the thunder. The summer breeze sighing, the autumn breeze singing, look at the joy, the happiness they're bringing to all of the people who love the outdoors, who sing in the sunshine and out in the moors.
The men are now fishing and bringing in their catch, The back door's not open, come loosen the latch.
The old back door is swinging now free in the breeze of the daylight, with the smell of the sea breeze playing on the mountains, in the valleys below, I see all the peaks there covered with snow.
The children are playing in the sandpile out back, the tools for the garden hang neatly 'pon racks. Out in the barn the cattle are waiting for dusk's warm glow to soothe them for evening.
And berries, they ripen in fields over yonder, The ladies go pick them and none do they squander. Their kitchens aglow with the sweet smell of cooking of pies, jarred peaches and berries all looking so fresh on the table, they're ready for us to eat after supper, relax, don't you fuss. There's plenty for all, don't take without asking. The seasons are subtle, time is long-lasting.
(Through our autumn - we reap as we have sown)
IV - Look Upon A Star
Sing your song the way you like, Tell us of the starry night of bright-eyed love and tender fruits from the tree of Eden.
Handed down to us from God is a love you cannot touch, A love, that in this world of ours means so very much.
Yet when you look upon a star and whisper in your heart, For honesty, peace and happiness should always have a start.
And if my words seem strange to you, which I know they probably are; Then think about them once again, next time you see a star.
(At the end of the day, when the work is all done, we rest under the stars and take time to appreciate and reflect upon our life)
V - Words
Words are here for those who speak of everlasting happiness. Yet, if you cannot find them, don't you worry now my friend - In time, when things look bright, they will be there.
And now the words are coming, they're sending out some soul, to help the world to live in peace, to help all to be whole.
Yet when the time is here for that you know how life will be... All people on this earth of ours will live in peace and harmony.
(Searching for the words and finding what we need to say)
VI - Me
In the days of Julius Caesar, In the days of Rome and Greece - In the days when all was beautiful, where everything was free.
If I would ever live again, that's where I'd like to be. To live a life of happiness... a life in harmony.
(Seeking self, soul searching)
VII - To Search
To search, my love, to search the world, to search the whole world through. To search, my love, to search the world, this, I'd do for you.
(Seeking true love)
VIII - Peace
Singing, dancing, playing on; So now, my friend, I end my song of all those things we need to live in a world of peace and happiness.
(Finding inner peace)
IX - My Pen Is Through
And now I sit in silence, my pen goes on and on, It sings of mostly happiness - it sings a gentle song.
Colour, laughter, splendor, Truth... I think of me, I think of you. And now, my friend - my pen is through.
(Sitting reflecting and listening to the wonderful sound of silence)
