Before I leave for New Orleans I wanted to lend you a slice of important wishes. Pay attention class, this one's important!

Ya'll behave and I heard they were throwing a welcome party for me there. I think they said Mardi Gras.

Cries from the Rainforest

Think of this earth as a body
The Rain Forest being the heart
The threat of a deadly virus
Slowly tearing her apart
The rain mixed with pollution
Each tear acids of pain
Sliding the mountains downhill
Scarring her pretty terrain
Trees being mowed down for paper
Baring her form to the sun
Drying her skin into wrinkles
Leathering under our gun
The constant threat of this battle
Her scars go deep to the bone
Thoughtless dangerous pollution
Opening up the ozone
She who once was a beauty
Slowly eaten alive
Tortures of mans only duty
Jackknifed into this dive
She's going downhill faster
Than we who believe can plant trees
She hunches her back to disaster
When more of us need to believe
She really needs a make-over
Her body needs the repairs
We have to complete in our lifetime
The beauty that we took over years
Give back to her heart its true beat
The one that makes us believe
That she who gives everything to us
Won't have to wear pain on her sleeve
We need to think of this lady
To give and not falter her trust
We need to think of her blessings
Think hard of what's under her crust
To feel as I do her pain
To live each day close to life
To feel the cries of the Forest
To make a good go for her strife
It won't take long to tender
It can happen if we attempt
To pull our resources together
The Rain Forest is giving us hints
Her heart is in need of a by-pass
We clogged her arteries and veins
With polluted fires of shaven forms
Apathized her answer to rains
Now she sobs to us with a pity
Very few hear her silent fears
The heart of the Rain Forest weeps for us
We have minutes...while we took from her
...years

This poem makes you feel the pain as we euthanize Gaia's soul by constricting her heart.

Hi Susan.
Quite a stunning picture, lot of detail, layered into it.
America is dragging its heels on evironmental issues in a big way, it being the worlds biggest single consumer of natural resources, and also the biggest contaminator.
Always wanted to go to New Orleans never quite got there,Atlanta airport being the nearest I ever got.
Have a nice trip.---------Morchuis

As a person who loves God more than self, I have always hoped to live to see the day we could put rhetoric aside and realize most of us want the same things. We just have different ideas on how to achieve it. I hope we can have a peaceful place here at the Den for we are all here for the main purpose of writing poetry, and yes expressing ourselves and being read. It would be nice if we stopped the political baloney and put it in another forum on boards or something, and lets get back to enjoying each others poems. this comment will go on everyones post, so please don't feel singled out;-) Thank you, God bless your day, and make it a good one!

Seems to me the world has their priorities confused. The rain forest and our universe needs the attention. Not the wars of big bucks with their toys. I'm all for the fight for freedom howvere and this is also a part of saving the planet. It figures into the "Big Picture" for without this world and freedom the backbone of all the world powers, her people, have no voice.
Let's get this war thing over people and focus our attention on the real problem.

Love and BEHAVE!

How much worse then a serpent's took, an ungrateful child. Mother earth, weeps for our ungratefulness, are all of us deaf to the pleas? Like spoiled brats we take, take, take and give nothing in return, not even respect. Wonderful message and poem, have fun at your "N'Orlan's bash"
