The Diggers

There's so few left, as in the remains of the day
those who so willingly gave their lives that we might stay
forever in our lands, without conflict or strife
they marched on to war, knowing it could take their life

Laden in Trenches, blood soaked to the skin
many knew they would never, see their next of kin
like Human shields, they lunged at ole Johnny Turk
later to set the standards, of the skirmish at Dunkirk

Some still remain, on the soil of Gallipoli
White crosses bear their names, wind howls menacingly
many with no names, still to this day
God knows who they are, and the price they did pay

We honour them yearly, at the rising of the sun
till the day is over, and a new one has begun
wreaths are placed, at each centitaph
moments of silence, not the time for a laugh

Throughout crazy wars, fought bravely and won
so many families, gave up their precious son
sweethearts waited, for their impossible return
if they came home alive, nary was a word of spurn

These Bravest of men, diminishing so fast
have others to join them, as  wars are set to last
the bugle shall sound, once more next year
Whilst Man bravely Marches, forgetting his fear

Lets take a moment, to remember the Brave
There's so much more to this, than a wreath on a grave
The Diggers, The Anzacs, True Blue family men
who selflessley fought, for their countries back then

Still, today, coming up through the ranks
we join forces, with our overseas flanks
War is a reality we could all do without

But this will go on, till from the Heavens, comes and ALMIGHTY SHOUT!

Lest we Forget!

Your respect, honour and love are reflected in this classic style poetry that should be read with hand over heart and eyes on the flag. Soldiers of all countries who fight to ensure freedom survives should be so honored all year round but this should definately be reposted on Rememberence Day.
hugs

ALL Veterans who serve should be remembered and honored for sacrifices, made and paid - God bless our Allied troops! As the daughter, sister, niece and cousin of Veterans, as well as a USAF Veteran myself, I bow my head in tribute to the Diggers. God bless 'em, and their families!

(((((HUGS))))) and love, Karla.
