The essence of greatness is to recognize that no matter what happens in our lives, we matter... We are all here for a reason and we uplift one another in many ways... ~Lily of Lough Neagh~

Poem Artwork

My name is Gardenia sweet lovely and fair
From bud to a bloom my filaments flared
Peduncle doth stretch to the rays of the sun
Sepals outreaching cup petals of love

But no one hath tended me
no moisture they gave
all those around me
Disgraced me so grave

My petals so tender
Hang down and turned brown
my perfume of beauty
No longer is crowned

My innocence tainted
my youth now has gone
deprived of my growing
no memories of love

It wasn’t ok yet you stole all from me
for I was a no one what harm could there be…

Despite the beautify of the poem, the metaphor is very sad.
Taking away your innocence and youth is terrible, while you should grow up with love and happiness.

Very heartfelt Carol

That's okay, gardenias are overrated anyway. But you have blossomed like a wildflower after years without rain. You are not the fragile, tame garden-variety, but the seed sown on the wind, heartily weathering many travails and eventually blooming late but spectacularly after the rain.

A lovely flower fragrance sweetest known. To the youth of it's
beginnings to marr and destroy. A touching write.

to mar a flower is senseless what harm is there in a flower

Poignantly beautiful indeed, your well phrased words don't beat around the bush, your metaphor hits hard with kind and loving words, and surely your message is painfully received thank you, Hugs!

Gardenias are very delicate flowers and bruise easily, but the metaphor is understood. Wonderful poetry as always Carol

Gardenias need care for them to do well, just like a human being needs love, food, nurturing. No matter who or what you are you still need the basics of life to survive. I loved this, Carol!

A sad lament of a misused Gardenia. Taking the flower as a metaphor and a darn good one I'm saying, is brilliant, Carol. There is so much depth within the lines of this piece, and even if the poem is about abuse, the words are poetical beauty.
