Poem Artwork

What kind of age we live in

When talks of deforestation

And abuse of surroundings

Are almost a taboo subject

Because they imply silence

About so many aberrations

Of the doomed humankind

In full ignorance of Nature!

What times we're going thru

If all talks of water pollution

And need effluent treatment

Are negligently reduced to

Soothing delay "for later,"

As though we hope for

A second lifetime without

Succeeding generations. . .

"Out of sight and out of mind," operates among most American city dwellers who demand exotic wood for their homes and cheap consumer products grown in tropics by corporations. In the United States in the last 100 years, wilderness protection and reforestation have brought back the trees that were clear-cut in so many areas of the country in the 19th and early 20th century… Now long forgotten.

Your poem and others will help overcome the ignorance of consumerism without thought.

Yes, we need to highlight the abuse of Nature and the lack of concern we have for certain of her rights that are irrevocable. It will all come back to bite us, it already has, have no doubt about it. Thank you for raising the issue. Enough cannot be said of the imbalances that we have created around us at the expense of nature. John
