Poem Artwork

I just wonder, what flowers

Actually think themselves

On the eve of their falling?

Do they think of the stream

Which will take them away

Straight to the open ocean?

Or maybe they think of

The stream's one-way love

And its only spring devotion?

It seems to me, they do not

Think of themselves and thus

Remain fine to the end of time.

Good thing they don't think, but just share their beauty with us.

Judging from the gracious way they drift down to earth in autumn, I would have to assume that they are thinking nothing at all except the joys of free floating in the breeze until its gentle end. John

I have little ability to gather what blossoms think. But I do know that blossoms are an enticement to birds and bees to come savor their sweet nectar and gather their pollen to spread to other trees for the dance of annual procreation.

Like dead salmon choking a river after laying their eggs, the blossoms float as a lasting reminder of the sacrifice the trees made to ensure their procreation.
