According to the rules

Of Ikebana art,

From a tripped flower

A portion shall be cut

And fashioned into a vase,

Which is ornamented further

With green and yellow and red,

While the rest of that flower

Is cut away and thrown into a dustbin.

If now we compare the Ikebana vase

With what was thrown into the dustbin,

There will be a difference between them

As respects their beauty and ugliness.

But they both agree in having lost

The proper nature of the flower not cut.

So, in respect of their practice

Of what is known as Naturalness

Is there a difference between

A master of Ikebana with his artful skill

The answer is certainly 'Yes, there is,'

But they both agree in having lost

The innate qualities of their targets' nature.
