Being in harmony with men

Is called the joy of Man;

Being in harmony with Heaven

Is called the joy of Heaven.

Those who know the joy of Heaven,

In their life act like Heaven does,

And at death undergo transformation

Like any other things, nothing else.

Those who know the joy of Heaven,

In their stillness they possess

The quality of the Yin and in movement

They flow abroad as the might of Yang.

Those who know the joy of Heaven

Have no murmuring against Heaven,

Nor any fault-finding with other men.

Those who know the joy of Heaven

Suffer no embarrassment from things,

Nor any reproof from the gods and spirits.

The spirits of death do not come to scare

Those who know the joy of Heaven --

They are not worn out by their own souls.

All their movements are those of Heaven;

Their stillness is that of Earth; their minds

Are fixed and so, they rule over the world.

Their words proceeding from their vacancy

And stillness, yet reach to Heaven and Earth,

And show a communication with all beings --

This is what is meant by the joy of Heaven.

This joy of Heaven forms the mind of sages

Whereby they nurture all under the blue sky.
