Nature is the object of reverence
To all the virtuous;
Life is what gives opportunity
For the display of one's virtues.
Self-nature is the substantive character;
The movement of Nature is called action.
When it becomes hypocritical, we say
That it has lost its due characteristic.
When the action of Nature springs out
From external constraint, we have
What is named 'the virtuous uniform';
When it is all one's own, we have
What is termed 'the internal control.'
These two terms seem to sound
Opposite to each other,
But in daily reality
They are in a mutual concert.
