The human heart

Is like a tree leaf--

Now it comes out
 
In whole-opening,
 
Now it falls down
 
Into its locking-in.
 

Every springtime

New sprigs are all

In bud; each time

The human heart

Remakes its vibes:

Now fast now not,

Now cool now hot--

The reproductions

Of a human nature.

It really depends upon whether you are writing about the "heart" that is in the brain are the real one, the one that pumps blood unceremoniously until it can't anymore. The former certainly cannot exist without the latter. But the former is what boys like you love to write about. Somehow my one track mind seems to prefer the latter for its strength and persistence.

How apt, Alex. No, really, how constant. Parlous times seem to deny us a clear look at out fundamental nature, when it is really ourselves clouding our own vision. Leafing will happen regardless. It is given to us to have some say in its greenness. May your days be leafy!
