He who in poverty but examines himself
For beneficial use of marginal condition
Will make his wealth appear pretty soon;
He who pretends to be poorer than he is,
Feigning penury in front of all kind folks
(There must be some kind folks of a sort
In the world still), how can such pretender
Be worthy of someone's pity? He'll freeze.
When on the threshold of the winter cold
Trees reset foliage in haste, they do that
Because of the call of nature to protect
The forest soil and what is underneath, but
Not due to inability to keep their crowns up.
In fact, the naked trees are not the attribute
Of the forest 'poverty,' as the fallen foliage
Protects the roots from the severe freezing.
Being aware of this feature, nobody tries
To meddle in the natural cycling when
Hibernation alternates with spring revival.
