Poem Artwork

Amidst artillery shelling and bombing,
Surrounded by ruins and injured howls,
She quietly sips her tea and smiles on,
And in her smile I see her expression
Of inner strength and self-possession.

She quietly sips her tea and smiles on,
And in her smile I detect at times
A near eastern laziness to change any
Of a kind and at others a conservatism
That savours of strong presumption.

Laziness or presumption, which is her true trait?
I do not know. But somewhere in her heart
Lurks an old fox, and it is a cunning fox which
Is strangely impressive. What a strange nature!
What an inconceivable spirit of the ancient soul!

Love is the answer. Look at Japan. During WWII they HATED the USA. We forgave them after the war. They LOVE us now. Amen

They've been fighting for so long, it's the only way of life they know.
It boils down to my god is the only god. yours is a false god, and thus death to the infidels. I worry that the same thing might be happening here in America.

Traditions passed down by a matriarchal society, bolstered by a long history of conflict, are very hard to change. The harshness of the landscape alone has bred a clinging to tradition that may or may not have any real value in understanding the rest of the world.

The last time I was in Israel was in 1985. By the pictures I've seen, Israel has changed but old ways do persevere. Religion resists change.
