Exploring far and wide the foreign lands,
We do not admit this to ourselves
But usually get a constant outlet
When local people ask us why we do not
Leave the country if we hate it so,
And we ask in retort why they do not leave
The foreign set dements, . . and
Both sides don't know how to reply.
As it is, we don't bother to make ourselves
Understood to the local men, and them
Bother even less to make themselves
Understood to us, with our foreign habits,
Defiant manners, and rough attitudes.
Unintelligent elaboration of us
With local tribes and ancient clans
As a stage fiction, which is as childish
As it is untrue and with which
We are so familiar, and a continuation
Of the earliest explorers' tradition
Minus the obscenity of language, but
With essentially the same obscenity of mind
We have inherited from our grand ancestors,
Aggressors and occupants by blood.
