Thanks to Erin Moen for the inspiration on this one, see her poem "Unnatural Death..."

Ashamed of my Race…

Ashamed am I to be part of the human race,

Why would God or Buddha or Allah show us any grace?

When we die we should be subjected to being a blade of grass,

Or a tree or a flower or a drop of water in the oceans,

Therein finally seeing and realizing what true pollution exists right in our face…

Maybe we can be a cloud, floating and bringing rain,

Though it should be acid rain burning us through and through,

We should be a grain of sand on a desert of radioactivity,

Dying each and every day in the hot sun or under nuclear ash,

We need to feel the real pain of Mother Nature’s woes,

If nothing else we will know how hard it is for forests to re-grow…

Black, white, yellow or brown,

Negro, Caucasian, Oriental or Indian,

Though we profess to be of a mind that’s sound,

We all do our part to ruin that which our very existence does rely,

Better I suppose to end our lives and die,

Returning to this world we do pollute as a fly,

Living one day then again dying to return and do the next day the same,

Therein we would find what little regard man has for this our home and only planet,

WE ARE ALL INSANE AND TOTALLY TO BLAME…

This is brave and honest, EM. Alas, we must all do more than say it. When you are "message" driven, as here, your rhythm and rhyme become subtle ways to deliver your thoughts...

"We need to feel the real pain of Mother Nature’s woes,"

Lines like this one are the pulse of your piece. Well done. katy xox

This poem lacks the 2 main objectives of poetry which is to instruct and delight. It lacks structure in that it has no contained meter or rhyme scheme which would be a help. Although it has some scenery, it is very melacholy and shares no delight by far.

Yep, even this computer that I am using is wasting resources and the AC I am enjoying is making a mess of things. I suppose that we could all live in tents and ride bicycles everywhere, but I know few who are truly willing to do that, myself included...oops, excuse me for a moment, my cell phone is ringing...
Take care,
Sherry
