Poem Artwork

Thick and green,

With the opposite power of caffeine,

They put me out, but not before making me feel keen,

I try not to get the munchies, but I’ll eat any cuisine…

Big as my thumb,

Who cares if I feel dumb,

Helps me not to feel numb,

Wrapped in its clutches I do succumb…

What goes on does not on my level occur,

Everything I see and remember a blur,

Happy though it makes me for those few minutes short,

Would never again do it, but oh for the times of the snort…

Mah-ree-hwan-nah ... such a delightful plant. In an earlier year, at Cambrian Affair Apartments (mostly housing Santa Clara County police officers) it was usual to see the pet plants out on the landing to be blessed by the sun. In an even earlier year, we fledgling hippies paused at Alice's Restaurant for chess and tokes (in between campus riots). California dreamin'. Mi vida loca!

Your picture and poem remind me of two of my cats, when I bring home a fresh batch of catnip! (Have you ever tried smoking that - wow!)
