To Travel upon the Sea…

Poem Artwork

Upon my trawler,

Not much of a fast hauler,

But she moves along fast enough,

I just hope we don’t meet many waves that are of her taller…

A tight ship, almost as tight as her master,

A smooth riding machine, blessed she was by a pastor,

Hopefully she will be a very long laster,

Riding high across the surfaces of the seven seas,

Better than living in a land based home made of mostly plaster…

Built of the finest hand-laid glass,

She may not be pretty but has much class,

No land do we see for several weeks,

Alone with our thoughts, her lines make me weak,

Fortunately she has no leaks,

Traveling with her I have plenty of time to with the sea speak…

If you are out to sea, bon voyage! Otherwise, get to work swabbing her and making her shipshape.

I have felt the sea in my heart, the brine on my tongue, and the fog in blinding my vision. I have passed Neptune's court for crossing the Arctic circle and yes the sea is unforgiving at times but once you mate with her it is for life.
Great job Ed,
