Almost 50...

Hey, they don't have an AGE category?

Poem Artwork

Almost 50…

40 seemed to be such a drag,

And now 50 looms,

And it seems like I am in line,

For a body bag,

So much for being young,

Although I might accept again to be nine.

But of course I must then know,

What I know now,

Or the transformation back to nine,

Would all be for naught,

As I would have to re-learn,

All those lessons all over again,

And with what the kids today have to put up with,

I don’t want to have to learn those lessons a second time.

But of course, there are pluses,

To being nine now,

No more butt whippings by dad,

When something is done that he disagrees with,

No more soap in the mouth by mom,

When is said a word that she feels is naughty,

No more nuns hitting you in catholic school,

Just cause you didn’t learn the golden rule.

All these pluses & more,

Are what kids have today,

That we didn’t as kids in the distant past,

But today the world it seems to move so fast,

No more use of the imagination,

Only technology rules these days,

So to go back to nine,

I would have a definite disadvantage coming from the past.

So to be 50, doesn’t seem too bad,

After all, there are those that are older,

And you have to consider it an achievement,

To have made a half century,

In these times of a new world that is bolder…

Funny and something to think about Ed. You're right about the almost needing a body bag. But it feels good to have my mind made up on almost everything and everybody that use to worry the hell out of me.
Yes, and the only way I would want to be young again is if I could take the knowledge that I now have with me. Have a happy new year. G
