Heaven, purgatory, and hell are here with us on planet Earth.
As the big “D” said in the 1300s,
Abandon all of it ye who enter here,
Just beyond the unbaptized infants
To the ice core of hell.
A dragon you can climb down
To get to an in between sort of place,
You know, the place of suffering for eons,
As if the Messiah weren’t enough
To wipe the slate clean.
But the only existing
Heaven, purgatory, and lake of fire
Is here,
In our bones.
The ache of pain and joy,
Disjointed we roam,
Or else sit in a cocoon
Awaiting spring to flourish
If we can.
Hiding for safety
Or enveloped in warmth,
A world beyond
In our minds.
A need for existential reason,
Like Camus,
Though most of us make
The irrational leap
Of Kierkegaard.
yes, jettisoning, just jettisoning, de facto, with no 'hope,' because this word seems to me as inappropriate and afar from here. As you can see, your poem sparked many thoughts in my mind.
It's all fleeting, even death. A remarkable poem from its inception to its execution. Love the graphic and the reference to the great D. Excellent work. John
The dichotomy of Camus and Kierkegaard in your piece (even though some of their philosophy coalesces, the gist of the poem transgresses the reference to established philosophy, moving into the unknown, without consensus or fact, but merely the exploration of philosophy yet to be created. What is this love and death remaining? It is the mystery of centuries, yet to be defined, awaiting a wisdom we know not of.
Book 2 of The Commander and the Chief series finds the Chief "on the warpath" and "counting coup" with her enemies on both sides of the ocean. Meanwhile, she fights an indictment and risks losing her latest love, the Commander, as well as unleashing
