FIELDS OF LILIES

  Take nothing but photographs,
  Leave nothing but memories.
                 The Country Code

Do we walk in fields of lilies,
as we feel the U.V. burn?
Are we leaving carbon footprints, showing
everywhere we turn?
Is the heel of our Achilles
Feeling more than just a graze?
Are we mapping out a blueprint for the
final end of days?

Do we think that ducks like drinking
From beer cans we leave behind?
Does it seem that shopping trolleys find their
own way to the trees?
Do we laugh when we are slinking
Homeward, late and beery-blind?
And while lilies do not spin, was Solomon
arrayed like these?

Solomon, in all his glory,
With rose petals at his feet,
Could not prophesy earth's story now the
air is less than sweet;
Now that sulphurous emissions
Spiral upwards to the sky;
No more faith or superstitions, when the
earth's time comes to die.

Do we kneel in fields of lilies
Praying all will go to plan,
as we feel the ozone leaking through the
chasm left by man?
Do we wonder why the will is
Somewhat weaker than intent?
Are the follies of our past becoming
more self-evident?

Man is picking up the pieces
As the politicians spin,
Making monkeys of our species, as the
oxygen wears thin,
While the lilies, in December
Bloom to perish in the frost;
Look upon them, and remember, before
all beauty is lost.

Beautiful. I can almost hear music behind it--I think they would make incredible lyrics.

BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!!
This is powerful, poignant and so true!!!! Isn't it funny billions can be found for warfare but...what can be found for environmental avenues??? The poor (mother earth and her "wildlife" children) keep getting poorer and the rich (a certain politician and his croonies, and yes some other unmentionable too) keep getting richer and playing who has the bigger guns! Makes me sick, sick, sick!
Excellent Writing Sara!!!!

Poet/ Sara L. Russell ...

"Are we mapping out a blueprint for the
final end of days?"

I don't know if we are mapping out a blueprint, I think its already been etched in granite by many generations before us. I do believe, however, that we are all playing our individual roles in a very delicate and dangerous chess game that will culminate in something that baffles the imagination, and changes planet Earth and its inhabitants forever.

For all the glory and wisdom and riches that Solomon was given by the Most High God, he still ended his days depraved and less that he could have been. I fear that Solomon is a metaphor for our self-centered, self-consumed, profligate, evil society that measures success by money, beauty, and power and not by the pursuit of Truth and Wisdom.

We have given our planet a serious fever - she is responding appropriately to our foolishness.

Light and Wisdom ...

Eye-opening reminder of what mankind has wrought: well done, Sara. What we've done to our surroundings, to our four legged and winged friends, what we continue to do...a damn shame. No wonder Mother Nature is in revolt. I don't blame her.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
