A sad tale of a gift neglected, rejected,or just undetected.
I remember… Once upon a time,
When I was young and in my prime
I’d offer sweet things to my love
Ideas Inspired from heaven above.
They never failed to bring a smile
This made the effort quite worthwhile.
But now I’m old and turning gray
and things don’t always go my way .
My most recent offering I’ll disclose
Was from our bush I plucked a rose
And carefully looking over the stem
Checked for thorns, and removed all of them
Then on the bedspread where her pillow lay
I placed my treasure and walked away.
I thought when she went to bed that night,
The little rose would catch her sight
And she’d be filled with such delight
I’d see again the smile so bright.
But friends this plan did not go as expected
She flipped down the spread my gift neglected.
This thing that I’d so carefully selected
Lay buried beneath covers and sadly rejected.
I found it there the following morn
It was pressed flat with petals torn
And the leaves so green had begun to wilt
After spending the night beneath the quilt
Next time I decide to give her a rose
It won’t be just one as heaven knows
I ‘ll use one in a pot, roots thorns and all
I guarantee it won’t be anything small.
The reason for this, I needn’t mention
Is I believe that will get her attention .
A most tender write that speaks volumes of the sensitivity of the man who cultivated the affection. I'm sorry it didn't go as it ought to have gone, a rose by any other name would still be a rose, I pray the spring will bring lots of rose buds, thanks for sharing this tender moment xo
My question is--where were when she was getting into bed? Next time, be just a little bit more romantic, and go to bed with her instead of later. You're as bad as me!
I used to get my wife flowers all the time, and she would always cry. But then after awhile, the tears stopped, and she began to expect those flowers. So I quit bringing her flowers.but hey, the thought's still there, and that's what counts. Right?
Well they say it is the intent that matters, what's in the heart always comes out to be seen sooner or later. Just a good thing you removed the thorns fist or your intent would have surely been mistaken, LOL!
