A beautiful tribute to the Sisters. I have an aunt who is a Nun. I admire her faith and dedication to a meager life...nay, not meager. Full of prayer, love and devotion, she is fed beyond measure. :) Well done, my friend, well done!

There was one Sister, though, who used to TERRIFY me. She was my Catechism teacher...back in the day, one wasn't supposed to be left handed. Well, guess what...my knuckles met her ruler many times. Did it change me? Not in the least...when she was my teacher, she was old then (I thought). Hadn't seen her in YEARS. When my mother died 16 years ago, guess who came to the funeral! Sister! Yep--hid my left hand behind my back. Yes, she noticed...and laughed. :)

I once thought of the kind of service. Unfortunatly I have a bit of too lusty of a nature and not enough dedication to do what there wonderful women (and men) do for the service of mankind. ;) Silver

I will add to this that this is true of most of the servants of God. Those who have blemished the image of these dedicated people aren't really servants of God, but instead are servants of their own selfish needs.

I write about the nun heavily in my upcoming novel From the Convent To The Rawhide: The Saga of Sadie Cade and Vi Montana. What does happen to nuns when they get older? They have no daughters or sons to take care of them in their old age like I do my mother. Most just work in gift shops at convents well beyond their working years. I include in my research in this novel a gerontology study of nuns and how they age more gracefully than normal women, as they have not endured childbirth, sex, alcohol, tobacco, all nuns have pretty well lived the same purity. Sister Pish, my main nun character came to settle the land in Utah where her parents came to settle the land following the trail of Brigham Young at the Pish Convent in St. George, Utah, my geographical setting. She has a duel with the Devil when she has a momentary lapse in judgement from a spell of Alzheimers. The Nun Study was very interesting research for me, Peter. Thanks for Cloistered this morning.
