Captured Innocence

When I first started writing on the den I posted a story under book heading called Ju Julia. It was the story about and written for a little autistic girl who I had met and who had made a big impression on me. I haven't seen her in a long while but last night she dropped in with her Mother to visit Old Santa at the mall. She has grown into a beautiful young lady but mentally she has retained the intelligence and same sweet innocence of that little girl I met many years ago. I listen to a requests upon requests from children who want gifts that run into the hundreds and sometime thousands of dollars and it ofen makes me feel sad but this little girl gave me a new reason to believe in Christmas just by loving Santa...

Captured Innocence

She’d come to see Old Santa Claus

This little earth bound Angel laughed with glee

Her little heart filled with joy and happiness

Oh such sweet innocence don’t you see

 

I gave her one of my “special” reindeer bells

Told it came from Rudolph and my sleigh

She let out a scream of pure delight

The kind that will not melt so easily away

 

Yes, I confirmed, Rudolph is truly real

So too is my workshop at the North Pole

As well as my little elves who work each day

All are Santa’s helpers and they all play a role

 

With that she gave to me a big hug and kiss

Then looking deep into my tear filled eye

She said sweetly “Santa I will always love you!”

And that’s when Santa began to cry

 

You see, Santa sees a lot of greed and shallowness

That often hurts poor Santa to his core

But to see this sweet earth bound Angel believe

Gave me renewed hope once more…

I remember reading that little story. How sweet for her and there is so much good in this world that I know most people don't get to see or hear about. I wish everyone could only look for and see the good. You find more when you are looking for it. Nice story. Lady J

this is beautiful! As is she "the earth bound Angel"
I love working with people with all sorts of disabilities & within behavioral management for the mentally retarded young adults. It's the most rewarding position I have ever held

My neighbor's boy is autistic but unlike this sweet girl he has a brilliant mind.. but there is innocence about him. I could see him telling Santa these things as well...Sweet poem Fee.

Will you give Rudolph a pat from me? I wouldn't mind having one of his bells. Only have so many, though, I understand. The kids are first, but I still believe. :)

I kinda don't think you can blame the kids for wanting everything and anything as it is more their folks that teach them by giving them what ever they want...this little lady knows the meaning of Xmas, as I would wish all kids did, as well as their parents...Ed

But my feeling is that it was the heart of Santa that was melting away, you old softie. Ya just can't buy these feeling, Fee. I know you cherish them. And one day when you are examining you're life, these Santa gigs will always stand out as special.

By the way she did not recognize me and her mother did not know I was now doing Santa there so when I called the little girl by name and told her I knew her grandmother...it really made her excited that Santa did remember...
