Boyhood Memories

There really is something good about getting older. You can spend hours at a time just getting lost in memories, some good… some not so good. I prefer to dwell on the good.

Poem Artwork

When I was just a lad and the whole world seemed so exciting

I spent hours at a time visiting places I found to be  inviting

Not far from my boyhood home was a state park in the mountains

A place with green trees, water streams, lakes and fountains

A state park of Maryland known to us as Cunningham Falls

Where deer and other wildlife roamed and you could hear the many types of bird call

I would sit for hours and listen to the sound of the waterfalls

Looking up through the trees I could watch the clouds as they floated by

Sometimes they would block the rays of the sun shining in a placid blue sky

The water flowing over the falls sang a song, a beautiful lullaby

The breeze that rustled through the trees seemed to whistle and sigh

The stones at the bottom of the falls were polished and the water was clear and shallow

I can remember the water being so pure I had no reason not to take a swallow

Oh, if only I could still see the world through the eyes of a boy

I would see a wonderland of delight, elation and joy

very good one Lew, your little boy still resides inside, that is you want him to, wake up but remember the old bones or a little brittle, take care

I think we old timers are extremely lucky; the world was still a wondrous natural place when we were young. But I still try to see it through the eyes of my youth, it keeps me somewhat sane.

A beautiful sharing of fine memories, Lew. You are fortunate to be able to focus on "the good stuff" from the past; I believe that is the best attitude to adopt. Love and peace to you,

Regis
