Our fifth and final baby was born when I was 28 years old. That translates into changing diapers for about eleven years straight, with just a couple months' break between babies. They were exciting years, warm-fuzzy years, but at times they became just a blur of activity and weariness. Enjoy this little glimpse of life in the Faust Household.
MOTHER'S DAYS
I loved all the attention, the presents and the fuss; This was the day I was pampered; my kids thought it was a "must." The little ones picked flowers fresh from the neighbors' yard, And son and daughters labored to create a rhyming card.
My breakfast eggs were solid, and were served with blackened toast; and the upturned gaze that awaited my praise was the thing I loved the most! Now that I'm young no longer, and all have left the nest, I smile when I think of my hours at the sink in those days when I got no rest.
There were diapers on the clothesline, and toys strewn on the floor; 'Bout fifty times a day I'd yell, "You forgot to close the door!" "Stop teasing your little sister!" "Don't fight! -- you must be sweet." "Did you wash behind your ears?" "Go back and wipe your feet!"
"You spilled your juice on Mommy! Yes, I know you didn't try." "Watch the baby while I change; No, Honey, Mommy won't cry."
and then I'd pray, "Dear Lord, I surely thank You that when goodnight prayers are said, I can hug each soft, warm body, and tuck them all in bed!
That takes me back some years and keeps my heart young, boyish, and cheerful, most of all I am loving it. Thank you for reminding me you write beautifully. Peace!!!
Connie,
This is such a touching poem, and you've written it so beautifully.
As one reads,it is obvious that you loved every minute of the time, even the blackened toast.

Fantastic, what memories.
You have a family that so clearly was influenced by your love that even the memories of spilled juice and hours at the sink must fill you with such a cherished warmth of emotion.

Those children brought you so much joy and love came to you from them. I am sure they were also a big help to you as they grew up and you enjoyed every moment of if surely. I wish you a Happy Mother's Day 2008 and many many more. Glad I read this poem today. It is a serious and well written one.
Connie, Connie, This is beautiful. As I read each line, I saw my own Mom...poor thing, she had seven of us, The first five were a year apart. She was 18 when she married my dad. Back then things were tough, but Mom always had a way of making life a joy, even though we kids were trying at times. I so enjoyed this sharing. Took me back many years. :) Thank you, my friend. Happy Mother's Day!
Connie, what a beautiful poem of your life with your children...each line brought memories to you I'm sure. I enjoyed this a lot and loved the images, your voice and the rhyme & rhythm.
Know the feeling, been there, done that and though at times it may have been a blur, enjoyed every blessed minute of every blessed day.
Enjoy, for time passes much to quickly! Happy Mother's Day!!!
Loved this stroll down memory lane, I too had some of those hard eggs, and blackened toast along with some really strong coffee! Lots of diapers to change and with my youngest came lots of diapers to wash, as she couldn't wear the disposable ones. I remember one afternoon I came home from a long day at work and was met with a very strong odor of coffee as I stepped out of the car, my two wonderful kids had cleaned the house, and prepared me a pot of extra strong coffee for my relaxation with my favorite movie in the vcr. It was a wonderful sentiment. I asked my son who had prepared the coffee how much coffee he had used when making this wonderful tasting extra strong coffee. He replied, I just filled it to the top of that thing that the filter goes in. So about twenty scoops huh? He replied, I think I put twenty two scoops! I took a few sips and quietly slipped the others down the drain without them seeing me. The few sips kept me up for the most of the night! Loved this write, helped me to recall a few fond memories as well!

This is truly beautiful my freind, and as the son of a mother who raised nine of us children I felt every line of it and it is the one mothers day poem I read that truly made me think of her again...gone now for over 25 years...thank you for helping me to remember her.
What began as Songs of the Angelic Gaze in the summer of 2006 continued the following year as The Bridge of Silver Wings, and developed even further two years after that into The Bridge of Silver Wings 2009. Whether readers describe it as a conversa
