Rattlesnake

I walked in the forest today,
Never knowing I wasn’t alone
But a big snake was sunning nearby
While I talked on my cell phone.

There were paths in the woods
That others had walked before me
Where I stepped lively along
Unprepared for what I would see.

Then up ahead something moved
Like a big log across the path
I stopped and stared, tippy-toeing closer
I nearly peed and thought I’d need a bath.

At first, I backed up too fast
My eye upon the snake-like log thing
I tripped and fell upon my haunches
Frightened, I sprang back up like a spring.

Oh man, did I ever take off running
Too afraid to even look back
Feeling like the moving log
Was racing right behind in my track.

Now, the moral to this story is
Don’t talk on phones in wooded bogs
Watch where you’re walking
And pay attention to strange colored logs.

Jeanette,
Snakes make me freeze. Then I shake and cry until someone drags me away or it slithers away! The picture of this rattler will have me checking where I step the rest of the night. Gotta look out for those carpet snakes...lol. Thanks for sharing this adventure!

Wow, that rattle snake is of pretty decent size too! My next door neighbor had one in his front landscaping a year or two back and he called me over to see it. He is always yelling at me when he sees me outside reaching into the brush when I want to clean it up and he showed me this snake and said this is why I tell you all the time to poke a stick into the brush first. Well, words of advice heeded and now I poke a broom stick in first before I use my hands. Good advice you pass along and a great write....

Be always safe,
Karen

Ugh, I hate snakes and even pictures of them. This is a horrible snake, too big for me. My grandson Jon has a ball python, which I hate too, it is brown like this one, but smaller. He loves it, I don't.

Oh my, sometimes we just need to enjoy nature and be aware of the dangerous aspects of it, definitely leaving our cell phones for emergency only situations...
Good to read you again, wonderful adventurous poem.
Peace, love, and light,
