Autumn Ornaments
All ready the leaves are falling
As autumn shows its seasonal face
Adorning the grass with leaf ornaments
In celebration of a year of God’s grace
Red, orange, yellow, tan and brown
The rich colors of a summer decline
Marking the yearly period of harvest
Ceremonialized with good food and wine.
It’s the period between the autumnal equinox
And the winter solstice, like a yearly rebirth
When the sun is in its annual movement along the ecliptic
Crossing the celestial equator, making night and day of equal length
In all parts of the earth.
Hot August brings rich subtle changes
Displaying dynamic new colors of falling leaves
Adding a slight change in the “feel” of the weather
Early morning coolness from wind-swept breeze.
October brings out the scary ghosts and goblins
As a busy harvest time reaches its peak
The children dress up in character costumes
Going from door to door yelling trick or treat.
So many wonderful events occur in autumn
But one thing never seems to change
The seasons come, the seasons go
Like the eternal winds across a mountain range.
