One of my favorite activities is loading up our RV and spending as much time as possible at one of many lakes in and around our area. I wrote this piece as a reflection of my thoughts ......

Down by the lake......

.

Early morning is such a treat,
nature awakens to begin a new day.
Birds up first in search of food,
swoop through trees along their way.

   Yawn, stretch, begin to prepare,
mystery of nature we hunger and thurst.
Each day a surprise, a gift from God,
please, what awaits, we are about to burst.

Kitties on the prowl waiting for treats,
            parakeets chirping, remove the cover.
Open the window, kitties come running,
birds high on a perch, together hover.

               Other creatures large and small,
crawling, climbing each doing their chore.
There is a place we all shall meet,
down by the lake along the pristine shore.

Water rippling, gently kissing the sand,
rolls in, rolls out without making a sound.
Walk along the edge, water feels cool,
               turning around footprints abound.

Will this always be here for others to see,
stopping, staring, it makes me wonder.
Will the land, the lake be misused,
how long before even the footprints go under.

             Food, shelter, cover from strangers,
many little friends depend on this lake.
            Fishermen, boaters, water skiers too,
all share this place, for goodness sake.

Saying good-bye to all my little friends,
time to go home, there is work to be done.
When it is time to leave I say a prayer,
if not for many, always be here for some.

Oh Karen,
I often wonder why we can not all live in the peace and beauty of nature. Not having to go to an office or fight heavy traffic. Just work the Earth or gather from it the food we need and live a life simple and somewhat free of the stress we now must endure. Life should not be as difficult as it presently is. If we could all just make a pledge to live a more simple and harmonious life. Wantong less, and giving more of ourselves. In a few years, I believe our health and the health of the Earth would be so much better. Surely there are at least a few of us out there that could make such a life change and a lifestyle work. One or two days like the day you descibe is simply not enough. Perhaps in God's next world. Beautiful poem, Karen.

Such a lovely way to meet the day. And yes it is a concern about our lakes. Mostly I hate to see motor boats and such in them. That can't be good for nature. Lakes that people swim in should be row boat and canoes only. Lady J

A wonderful and inspired write my friend. The nearest lake for me is about twenty miles, so I don't get to visit it as often as I would like to. However, we have two beautiful ponds on our farm and a wonderful babbling creek! The creek is my quiet and thinking spot, where I spend much time meditating, reflecting, pondering, and praying. I love to watch the small crawdad's as we call them, the minners (minnows) and often times if I am still and quiet enough for a period of time the creek is visited by a beautiful white crane, or a handsome little herring! I love to watch my kitties go down and try to catch a minnow with their paws or just lap up a drink of water. It's a peaceful retreat that I am thankful for, and can only hope that it will last for generations to come! Beautiful and inspired write my friend, enjoyed!
Blessings,

You have put your write together so well..
Lakes and animals will be here if we put

live on our planet.
People like yourself Karen will keep the
natural things here for many years.
