Needed to get out of the house this afternoon. Time to be alone, to think, to pray for guidance.....
The Egret........
Needed to take a walk to clear my head,
sun shining bright, no breeze this day.
Walked past the stables down the street,
to a quiet picturesque pond to stay.
Looking for a place to sit and read,
noticed a variety of birds in flight above.
There on the ground walking the shore,
was a beautiful Egret standing with a dove.
Strolling closer he remained perfectly still,
as if waiting for company to play.
Are you scouting for insects and fish,
or is it that your feet are stuck in the clay.
Finding a place to sit further up the bank,
there, in the shade, under a large old tree.
The Egret unafraid steadily walking,
slowly, cautiously he is following me.
He is so beautiful with regal wings,
spreading wide giving him room to glide.
Still walking, searching, always alert,
he does not stop until at my side.
Hello Mr. Egret with feathers so soft,
I have no bugs, insects or fish.
Do have a sandwich of lettuce and turkey,
I will share with you on a paper dish.
Is that why you followed me?
You are hungry and in need of food?
Then enjoy my friend eat until full,
you will feel better and be in a good mood.
Do not make a habit to come here often,
came today to help my heart and mind mend.
Perhaps you came to rest and relax,
but here at this pond we each found a friend.

Karen, this soothe's the soul and fills the heart. This left an amazing imprint in my soul today. The beauty of God's creations and especially His creatures draws us near to Him in our hour of need. This is a keeper!
I am continually in awe of God. You needed some unconditional love and silent companionship - the egret gave you both. You shared your lunch and he shared his friendship - reminding you that we never walk alone. God is awesome. He gives guidance in the most incredible ways.
What started off as a private walk
Ended up as a public greeting
We never know who we might be meeting
Now, I just may go for a walk this morning

Are you sure that the unafraid bird was a bird? or a sign to your mind wishing to be cleared that there wasn't anything so heavy that the company for a few steps of a delicate bird couldn't help?

What a wonderful adventure for both you and friend, Egret. I enjoyed the way in which you slowly and lovingly unveiled your story, letting the reader share the moment with you.
Beautiful picture. I love to kayak and sometimes I head out on the marshy swamp of lakes just see these birds. Egrets and herons are such silent, stelty stalkers. Watching them is like watching a slow motion slide-show. Yuor humor is perfect- these are relaxing creatures. Very enjoyable!
My Karen and I always say when we see an Egret: "I 'egret' to inform you..." LOL Just something stupid we say.
I don't 'egret' reading this poem: you made a friend! Shoot: you offer me a turkey and lettuce sandwich, I'll be your friend! LOL I am your friend, even without the sandwich. LOL Enjoyed this one, well done, and I pray you find the peace you seek.
