Think.......
As you awaken, sun shining bright,
stretching your arms, rubbing your eyes.
Remember and think of what came before,
as you enjoy this day under blue skies.
Think.....
Not giving a thought to walking outside,
or going to bed sleeping safe and sound.
Going to work, dropping children off at school,
not having to worry or look all around.
Think.....
Many of America's finest,
no longer standing at our side.
This day and every day a chance to say thanks,
for all who gave so much, now our time to abide.
Think.....
Visit, shake hands, a hug goes a long way,
stop at gravesites of those who sacrificed all.
See the many treasured monuments,
kneel, say a prayer as you hear the aged call.
Think.....
Keep in mind our many allies,
such a vital role for wars to be won.
In the beginning a thought, a dream,
as Washington and Lafayette joined as one.
Think.....
A motley crew of idealistic men,
of those whose names escape our memory.
How hard they believed, fought and died,
now a wealth more valuable than the Treasury.
Think.....
Defending liberty, not an easy task,
forever vigilant we must always be.
Whether yesterday or now today,
never drop your guard from those unable to see.
Think.....
A Representative Republic we started with,
and with each year it continues to grow strong.
Placing our faith in the few that govern,
remembering all as we walk along.
Think.....
As you awaken, sun shining bright,
stretching your arms, rubbing your eyes.
Remember and think of what came before,
as you enjoy this day under blue skies.
Saluting our troops and their families...
God Bless All This Memorial Day!

Oh, my goodness. You pen a strong one, my dear. Memorial Day should be every day, not just on certain days when convenient! It's so much more than picnics, days off and sales. We owe those who've donned the uniform EVERYTHING. And you've started with this write - thank you.
As the daughter of, sister of, niece of, cousin of Veterans, as well as a USAF Veteran, myself, THANK YOU. Well done, your best!
