Poem Artwork

Enchanted
And immune
From the bitter cold,
While sucking on a candy cane,
I take a walk
Down Main Street
And allow the child
I once was
To oo and ah
As I enjoy
The many
Christmas lights
And the festive
Shop windows.
I drop coins
In every red bucket
And wish the bellringers
A Merry Christmas,
Then I wave jauntily
At a passing Santa
Just before arriving
At the big stone church
Where a simple Living Nativity
Reminds me
What all the fuss
Is really about.
A single star
Above the makeshift stable
Seems to outshine
The twinkling lights
I had only just passed,
And in the floodlights
A flesh and blood
Mary and Joseph
Brave the chill
To bring the true message
To passersby.
I feel no guilt
For my secular enjoyment
Of a holy day;
Rather,
The glow which has warmed me
Grows and grows
Until my vision blurs
From thankful tears
For the baby born
So long ago,
And the blessing
Of everlasting life
He brought me.

This poem brought back so many memories of childhood and the old main street of my childhood days. Stunning poetry.

As Christmas approach hearts receive some glow of goodness, hope that hardened hearts can thaw just a little for Him.
