There are some
Who detest Christmas
In its
Entirety,
They call it too
Materialistic
Secular,
And, of course,
A Humbug;
But there are many
Such as myself
Who embrace all
That Christmas is!
I love the lights,
The carols,
The children's excitement
As they wait
Oh so impatiently
For their moment
With Santa,
And I hold in reverence
The birth of the One
Who personifies love
For all.
It is for these reasons
That I hold in my heart
Respect
For those who celebrate
Their own winter
Holy days:
Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, El Eid, Yule,
Because all are expressions
Of hope,
Of love for God, and
His (or Her) creation.
Therefore, perhaps,
We should all seek
To find the universal spirit
Of this sacred season
In our hearts
And in our own
Ways,
And not reject
The sanctity
Of others.
