The rose is a pretentious creature,
Full of vanity and waxen sincerity,
It's beauteous image both
Trite and stale
With over worn words
Of love and fidelity;
But the daisy,
Though barren of magnificence,
Offers genuine smiles
And pretty thoughts,
And a sunny face on a storm tossed day.
It fills the heart
With hope and innocence,
And the blush of youth
From seasons past,
Making a small portion
Of day to day life
For a moment, honestly precious.
