Thunder giggles in the darkening skies,
Zeus has a brand new game in mind,
The object of his attention is me,
Why do I feel he won't be kind?

I don't know what I've done to make him mad,
Perhaps used his name in insult?
It's my name he autographs on the clouds,
I know I won't like the result.

He graciously gives me a head start,
But tells me that I must run nude!
I don't like it, but don't have much say so,
Maybe I'm a bit of a prude.

He is toying with me, I know he is,
He could zap me at any time,
Who can understand the mind of a god?
Why bother, since he knows my 'crime'?

I try my Olympic best to escape,
I run all over Greece and back,
I'm getting tired, but Zeus will not quit,
He just keeps pressing the attack.

'Enough,' Zeus roars, 'You have proven yourself!
Olympia, please note his name!
This young man has just made sport history
As the first athlete of the Games.'
