Please thank a Veteran today. Don't let their sacrifice be in vain. Don't let them become one of the nameless, forgotten ones.
Forgotten once again, the Veteran sits alone in his hospital room, with only his memories to keep him company. Forgotten once again, the Veteran befriends the demons that torment him in the darkness of the night - at least they visit him. Forgotten once again, the homeless Veteran walks foreign streets in the land who asked for his sacrifice, and now choose to ignore. Forgotten once again, the nameless Veteran dies - it doesn't matter who he was, he was a man that nobody remembered.

We owe our lives to the likes. That man epitomises the true courage of those who faught..Sitting down epitomises the life we take for granted..not understanding how we were close very close to now being russian states....
Great tribute to the veteran. Thanks for creating this wonderful poem to people who have done wonderful job for their country. I admired the way you defended their right to be remembered.

All veterans are remembered, at least by other veterans.
Those that have served by their sides, fought for a democracy and flag that most seem to forget once the war is over. But as long as people like yourself remember them, as well as write such powerfully strong remembrances such as the above poem, Karla, you make it hard to forget!! I for one, SALUTE your patiotism for your country and the veteran that defended its freedom...very interesting picture as well, that gentleman in the wheelchair deserves more and our flag deserves better from the rest of those sitting and watching...Keep these powerful writes coming, as I may not review each, I do stop by and read them regularly...Peace dear lady...Ed & Rufuz
powerfully sad poem, karla; it is a shame how we treat our veterans, the very ones who gave their lives so that we could be free today! outstanding write; this poem should be required reading for all who are in government, in particular, the leaders! brava!

thank YOU for YOUR service to our country!! :) god bless you always!
POWERFUL pic and poem, Karla. It is so sad that the vets are not recognized as heros anymore, but are cast aside forgotten in our modern society. How sad!
Truly sad, and very sadly to me as well, a part of our life today - and for far too long. Our valiant vets deserve much better from us, and I hope your message rings loud and clear for many - especially our politicians and legislators.
Thank you for the poignant reminder that today's Americans are too self-centered to know about what is important. I blame the OPPOSITION to Repulican leadership, as much as anything. Too much anti, anti, anti, until young people just don't give a schitt ! ! !Now, they don't give a crap for heritage, history, and beating the bastards in a war, who would kill them in an instant - just for being on the wrong side of religion. Let's hope that educators return to teaching patriotism along with the liberal remaking of our economic structure. Lazy asses who don't want to work for their bread, never want to serve in the military except for a few. We've fallen a far piece since my days in WWII when Germany and Japan were ready to slice up America's future. Thanks for listening. - Bill
Sage has got the right idea... taking the time to actually VERBALISE each and every name that comes before your eyes, thereby making that person real in your heart and mind; thereafter you can't be numb. Your picture and comment breaks my heart. We are not only heartless, we are disrespectful, not even able to rise off our arses in solidarity or appreciation - yet what happens if a goal/home run is scored (Andy??!!! But not you, Hon... I know YOUR blood would be boiling, too!) Methinks our priorities are sadly warped in our "Pass the popcorn" society. Brave and truthful write, Karla... Happy Holidays doesn't seem QUITE the right tag for today, but you know what I mean. Bless you and thank you, Kate xx
A Purple Heart for this one, Karla. I read the Veterans names today on the brass engraved plaques. I said each one out loud. I took time to thank their souls. I heard them say "Thank you, kind one."
