Seeing the seagulls in the restaurant parking lot this morning inspired this one. :)

Poem Artwork

A flock of seagulls, cartwheeling
through the air on black-tipped wings, laughs
as I vainly flap my arms in
an attempt to join in their flight.
O, if only the wind were right,
I could take off from my poems
and wing my way to Galveston ...
but man wasn't designed to fly.
So, here I am, looking foolish,
and I don't really give a damn.
I just want to get away for
a while but find myself grounded.

To a talented poet and that would be you. I hope you enjoy my latest posting. Take care, simply rita

THIS WORLD

This world it seems to laugh at me
The fullness of my lips
The darkness of this skin of mines
The wideness of my hips

This world it seems to gaze at me
Despair upon its face
Approval found not in its eyes
With thoughts of sore disgrace

“Oh Lord, how can you let this be?”
This hate upon my soul
“Why is this burden given me?”
“Is Thou not in control?”

“Am I to bear the strikes of life?”
“Shall arrows pierce my side?”
“Am I not worthy of the love
That brings forth inner pride?”

“My child the scars upon your back
The strikes from every thresh
The whelps uprising from the blows
To wound your precious flesh

Is mindful of the my lesions deep
The marks upon your skin
Is mirrored to remind you of
The day I bore your sin

And for the scorn dealt unto you
The pain of silent cries
You are the image made of me
And like me you shall rise

So bear the stares that come to you
You will not suffer long
For every thing befalling you
Have come to make you strong.”

A-Muse-ing, to say the truth! I know the feeling, and your well-penned words are deeply describe how we feel. Okay, you're grounded, so go do something out there... on the ground... something you've wanted to do, or a place to go. And, by all means, write about it and POST IT ! !

Yes, seabirds have a way of reminding us that freedom has a heavy price but can be so beautiful. Gulls live off garbage, but to watch them in flight you would think they were eagles. Life I guess is like that. Pack your bag jump on a plane, trian or automobile and take off for a mini weekend vacation. SOunds like you need and deserve it.

I love this! When I saw the title, I thought of something I said earlier and had to come see if our thoughts on grounded were the same. I mentioned the word to my daughter and (still being young) she thought of restrictions. My thoughts were different. I can't stand to wear shoes, and was excited because it was 72 degrees here today (after a very cold spell), so I could stand on the ground in my bare feet. In contrast to what your poem is about, I love to feel 'grounded' in the sense that I'm connected to the earth. On another site I frequent we have a two-word challenge, where one person chooses two words and we all write either a poem or essay using those words. It's interesting to see how many ways people interpret the same words (or word as in this case with grounded. I like what you've done with a word that means something different to me.

It's funny how this poem is musical, Karla! Galveston by Glen Campbell and there's a rock group called Flock of Seagulls. Time to get out some feathers and make an ink quill!

Karla,

Whimsical, free-spirited "flight" of fancy in this delightful piece; very well done! thoroughly enjoyed; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, karen lynn. :D

you should have seen her, standing there outside of the restaurant where we work, flappin' her wings--ah, er, ARMS, making "gull noises" at the birds, as though she were talking to them! it was a hoot! LOL
